California Trip: LA Textile Show 2021

For those of you who don't know what the LA Textile show is, it's where we get all of our fabric for our Frocks and last year because of COVID, we didn't get to go. Needless to say, we were so excited to go after 2 years and what a trip it was. Joe ended up getting sick the day before we had to leave. That morning, he was still feeling bad and I didn't know what to do at first. But, as I always say, more faith than fear and I made a choice in faith. I called our new photographer, Micayla, and asked her how she would feel about flying to California. It was only her second day on the job. A couple of hours later, we were on our way to the airport with Mary Sue, our production manager.

When we got to our Air BnB, we were just amazed. The house was absolutely beautiful and the view was even more gorgeous. It was private, on top of a hill, and overlooked the ocean. I could open my window at night and just hear the waves. It was so peaceful. So, if you're ever looking to stay in Malibu, you should  look this place up.

On Wednesday, we all were feeling a little jet lagged, but that didn't stop us from having a great time at the LA Textile Show. There were so many vendors there and we spent over 4 hours drawing inspiration, hand picking fabrics, and talking to other fashion designers. I have so many ideas in my head and I'm so excited to see them take shape. You're not going to want to miss out on these new Frocks.

To celebrate our excitement and success at the show, we went to Mastro's Ocean Club for dinner. It was amazing. The food was delicious and we ate outside by the ocean. As we were eating, we could see the dolphins jumping in and out of the water. Right as we were about to leave, the sun was starting to set behind the mountains and we did a quick little photoshoot.

Thursday, I took the girls to Malibu farms for lunch and to look around. While we were there, I found this amazing small business, Alkemie Road. The owner set up his shop in a cute wagon on the board walk and makes the most beautiful jewelry. They're such unique pieces and I ended up buying a gold, lion cuff along with some other bracelets.

After, I drove the girls around so they could see more of California before our flight. We made it to the airport and to our gate right as they were boarding and met some amazing people. There was a coaching league from LA on their way to Cleveland as well. A lot of their boys end up going to the NFL and I was curious about how they run their program.

So once we boarded, I paid for the coach to move up to first class and sit with me. We had great conversations. He told me what leadership means to him and how he leads his boys to be the best versions of themselves. It was really inspiring and gave me ideas to bring back to my team, so that we can become better versions of ourselves.

This trip really got me excited for these next couple of months and I can't wait for you all to see what's coming. Expect to see more colors of your favorite pieces and some special Christmas pieces as well. You won't want to miss it.

I just came upon your beautiful studio as my husband and I were driving through Ohio Amish country nearing the end of a 3 week driving trip from Massachusetts out west and back. I knew I loved your store from the start, but did not have time to immerse myself and buy. So as we have been traveling over the last 2 days, I have so enjoyed your website and learning your story. I made a purchase but look forward to coming back for more! Thank you!!
